Enjoy "pearls of God's love" part 2 compliments of Mya.

Most of us love puppies! It’s so much fun to watch them learning and growing. You can’t imagine how our lives were changed on 01/17/2025 when we chose a cute, lovable, 2 lb. Cavapoo (named “Mya”) to join our family. She has been ours for over 2 weeks and I can’t imagine our lives without her already! Mya has brought many Biblical applications to my attention as I’ve watched her adjust to having a master. There are daily thoughts or “pearls” that I am seeing that can be applied to our Christian life from watching a puppy and I thought it would be fun to share. This will be a 2-part blog 1 week apart looking at thoughts from a puppy’s view that are SO applicable to us.

I am Chosen: We looked at many puppies and dogs online but once we saw her, she was our pick. We drove 2.5 hours to claim her, purchase her, and to make her ours. There was a cost: time invested, money spent, the sacrifice of our time travelling, and caring for her. A friend of mine said, “Mya is a very lucky little girl” and I believe she is right because we CHOSE Mya. She was our first choice and the best choice for us.  Chosen is defined as “one who is the object of choice or divine favor." Sweet sister, do you realize that YOU were chosen even before you were formed in your mother’s womb! How special are you!? God wanted you, planned a path for you, and called you. You, my friend, are one who is “the object of divine favor”, God’s divine favor! Colossians 3:12-13

I am Loved: We loved Mya when we saw her but when she became our - oh how that love grew! She stole our hearts from the time she was placed in our arms. Those costs mentioned earlier were nothing compared to our love for her! We were ready and prepared to supply for all her needs. We accepted her with food, blanket, treats, and toys; not to mention we had already prepared for a vet for her. Mya’s responsibility was to come to us and love us for us for offering her a great life. I’m so glad that she chose to love us rather than growl and run in the other direction. Friend, our love for Mya is nothing compared to God’s love for us! Our caring for Mya’s needs are nothing compared to God graciously supplying all of our needs. We could never plan a future for Mya near as good as God’s great plans for us. Yes, you and I are loved with an everlasting love!  Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us".

I am Known: Prior to deciding on Mya, I did so much research to learn as many details as I could about being her master. This research has prepared me to understand the weaknesses she may have, strengths and assets that she would bring to us, her needs, her size, and potential health issues she may experience. I know you aren’t surprised that when God formed you, he knew even more than we knew of Mya as He planned your future, spiritual and physical growth, your weaknesses, your needs - everything about you, God knew and planned in only His perfect way. As we spend time with Mya, we will grow to know her more and more and she will do the same with us. Oh, how I look forward to the day that she knows our thoughts and we know hers even before a word is said. Yes, when we draw close to God, His thoughts become our thoughts. God also knows our hearts without us even saying a word. What a special relationship it is when we are known to each other. Never, ever could Mya get to know us without spending time with us and sweet sister, we can’t get to know our Savior on a more intimate basis without spending time with Him. God knows even the number or hairs on our head, our inner thoughts and our needs. Oh, how we should trust Him knowing that He knows everything about us - A God that knew us before we were even formed (Jeremiah 1:5).

I am Forgiven: Mya is a smart little girl, but she is still learning and growing; therefore, she makes mistakes. She chewed the bathroom mat a little, she has had a few accidents in the house, she doesn’t always come when we call her, and I could go on. Here’s the thing though - we LOVE her and although there are consequences, we forgive her. We are helping her learn things that are good for her (and us) and part of that is forgiveness while the other part is consequences. Mya started chewing on my computer cord. I told her three times, “no”. She proceeded so I swatted her backside.  She yelped, ran to daddy, and sulked for a few minutes. Then she came back to me and sat with me the rest of the night. She knew she was forgiven.

Sweet sister, as forgiving we are to our pets and children, our Heavenly Father is so much more to us! We couldn’t ask for a better Father, Master and Savior! 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Oh what comfort I find knowing that no matter how many times I fail, Christ is waiting for me to come to Him asking for forgiveness to receive justification and purification. Psalm 85:6 is another favorite: “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.”

What a great place to stop for this week: God’s forgiveness! Whew, that is something that I am daily grateful for! This week we looked at promises that our Master, our God, and Savior gives us. Next week we will view this same relationship from a puppy’s view of how we should respond to our Master.

Verses to Meditate On: 1 Peter 1:2; 1 Thessalonians 1:4; Deut. 14:2; Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13; Psalm 103:10-11; Numbers 14:18; Psalm 139; Jeremiah 31:3; Psalm 86:15; 1John 3:1; 1 Chronicles 16:34

Prayer: My Forgiving Savior, thank you for choosing me to be called Your Child. Thank you for Your great forgiveness and love even when I fail greatly. I thank you for Your provision and even the consequences that I bear when I do wrong so that I will learn from my mistakes. You are such a great, great God and I know that you lavish me with more love and blessings than I deserve. There are so many promises that You have given us that we take for granted but today I want to pause to say, "I love You and am so thankful to have Your protection." Help me to have the same humble posture towards You as a puppy has towards its Master: loyalty, lovingkindness, and faithfulness. May I honor you in all that I do. Amen
